Finding Purpose

The Japanese have a word for it: Ikigai, the concept of something worth living for.

Study after study tells us that finding purpose increases wellbeing, good health, and even longevity. TRUE NORTH brings this truth to life, taking viewers on intimate journeys of ordinary people who take uncommon - and often courageous - paths to healing and redemption, guided by an inner voice that tells them this is where they're meant to be.

A study from the University of Wisconsin showed that adults who had a strong purpose in life had increased longevity. More research shows that certain areas of the world, called "longevity hotspots," are filled with people who have found their ikigai. When one has a purpose, they tend to be less depressed, and they are more likely to devote time to their own health and wellbeing. They are more optimistic, sleep better, and are less lonely.
